Remarks by Chinese Consul General Long Dingbin Celebrating the Chinese New Year of the Tiger
2022-01-30 16:38

On the occasion of the arrival of the Chinese Lunar New Year of the Tiger, on behalf of the Chinese Consulate General in Perth, I would like to extend our sincere greetings and best wishes to the Chinese communities, Chinese international students, personnel of Chinese-funded institutions as well as friends from all walks of life in Western Australia.

2021 is a year of great significance. We marked the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. China has realized the first centenary goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and making the historic achievement of eliminating absolute poverty, which has created a remarkable miracle in the history of human poverty reduction and made important contribution to the world. At the historical convergence of the Two Centenary Goals, we have set out on a new journey of building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects.

In 2021, despite mounting challenges posed by major changes unseen in a century and the gravest pandemic in a hundred years, Chinese government firmly adhered to its people-centered development philosophy and strove to make significant achievements. China has embraced its 18th consecutive year of a bumper harvest, with the country’s total grain production exceeding 650 billion kilograms for 7 years continuously. China’s total GDP in 2021 has expanded by 8.1% and reached 114.37 trillion yuan ($18 trillion), which has eclipsed most of the other major economies and further cemented the country’s leading position in the world economy recovery. China has provided over 2 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines to more than 120 countries and international organizations, making significant contribution to bridging the global immunity gap.

We are pleased to see that, under the strong leadership of Premier Mark McGowan, Western Australia has not only excelledin pandemic prevention and control as well as social and economic development amongall the Australian states and territories, but has also maintained a good momentum of across-the-board pragmatic cooperation with China. 2022 marks the50thanniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Australia. Zhejiang Province and Western Australia,Chengdu, the provincial capital of Sichuan and Perth will also celebrate their 35and 10 years of friendship respectively. The fruitful outcomes of win-win cooperation between China and Australia over the past decades and the friendly exchanges amongour two peoples have fully convinced me that China-Australia friendship should and will last forever.

2022 is the Year of the Tiger in the Chinese lunar calendar. Tiger is the king of beasts,which symbolizes bravery, continuous improvement and strength. We earnestly hope that, in the Year of the Tiger, Chinese communities, Chinese international students and personnel of Chinese-funded institutions as well as friends from all walks of life in WA will be full of vitality and continue to lend your helping hands to promote friendly cooperation between China and WA and play a better role in bringing China-Australia relationship back on the right track. The Chinese Consulate General in Perth will, as always, act on our commitment and work all-out to serve the Chinese nationals in WA wholeheartedly.

In just four days, the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympicswill kick off. China is all set to deliver a simple, safe and splendidWinter Olympics. Just as theBeijing Winter Olympics official motto “Together for a Shared Future” suggests , let us join hands and welcome the future with full confidence.Inspired by the Olympic spirits of “Faster, Higher, Stronger - Together” , the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics will bring more courage and hope to all those who are still in difficulties and facing challenges.

Auspicious tigers usher in the Beijing Winter Olympics, where all the top athletes will make friends and compete. I wish you and your family a very happy and successful Year of the Tiger!
