On July 23, Consul General Dong Zhihua met with Chair Commissioner Eric Lumsden, Deputy Chair Commissioner Gaye McMath and Chief Executive Murray Jorgensen of City of Perth.
Chairman Lumsden said the City of Perth and the Western Australian government regard China as an important neighbor. Perth and China enjoy geographical proximity and share the same time zone. The two sides have been cooperating closely in trade, education, tourism and people-to-people exchanges and our interactions are critical. Perth's tourism and the international education will have to compete in international stage, City of Perth will recast its development model and strengthen cooperation with China so as to inject new impetus into the industries. It is hoped that bilateral exchanges be strengthened in new sectors such as renewable energy and medicine .
Consul General Dong appreciated that City of Perth has long attached importance to and actively promoted relations with China. She pointed out that blessed with geographical proximity, bountiful natural resources as well as advanced education and tourism industries, Perth has been actively pushing forward cooperation with Chinese sister cities of Chengdu and Nanjing in various fields. This May, the first Perth Chung Wah Culture Festival was successfully held, which are part of the measures taken by state government to improve Perth's international visibility and to boost tourism. The Chinese Consulate General is willing to join hands with City of Perth and WA state government to host an even better Festival next year. 2019 marks the 70th founding anniversary of the People's Republic of China, and it is kindly expected that City of Perth continue rendering its warm and solid support to Consulate General and Chinese ethnic community in a series of celebrations. Chinese Consulate General would like to intensify cooperation with City of Perth and WA state government to promote bilateral friendly relations and pragmatic cooperation to a new stage.
