On Thursday, 15 August 2024,a special reception was held by Consul-General of the People's Republic of China in Perth Long Dingbin,to celebrate Western Australian Nobel Laureate Prof Barry Marshall's winning China International Science and Technology Cooperation Award 2023.Minister Counsellor Wang Ling from the Chinese Embassy in Australia announced Ambassador Xiao Qian's congratulatory letter to Prof Marshall.About 100 representatives from the Australian federal and WA governments, universities, associations and institutions attended the event.

Consul General Long congratulated Professor Marshall on his winning the award, thanked him for his important contributions to China-Western Australia and China-Australia scientific and technological cooperation, thanked the Australian Federal and Western Australian governments for their long-standing support for bilateral scientific and technological cooperation, and hoped that the scientific communities of the two countries would strengthen exchanges and mutual learning to jointly open a new chapter of scientific and technological cooperation for the benefit of the people of the two countries and the world.

Prof Marshall expressed his sincere gratitude to the Chinese government for awarding him and his team this great honor and the Chinese Embassy in Australia and the Consulate General in Perth for their long standing support. He said he would continue to work hard to deepen cooperation and exchanges with China. He demonstrated his excellent skills in Chinese calligraphy and wrote "China-Australia friendship",winning warm applause from the audience.
