Xi Jinping Meets with President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko

On December 4, 2023, President Xi Jinping met with President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

Xi Jinping pointed out that he and Mr. President Aleksandr Lukashenko reached important common understandings on promoting the high-level development of China-Belarus relations during Mr. President Aleksandr Lukashenko's successful state visit to China at the end of February this year. One year on, political mutual trust between the two countries has been more solid and international cooperation has been closer. China always views China-Belarus relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, firmly supports Belarus in following a development path suited to its national conditions, and opposes external interference in Belarus' internal affairs. China stands ready to continue to strengthen strategic coordination with Belarus, firmly support each other, advance practical cooperation, and continuously deepen China-Belarus relations.

Xi Jinping emphasized that ten years ago, he put forth the Belt and Road Initiative, and more than 150 countries have participated in Belt and Road cooperation. Xi Jinping added that he announced not long ago eight major steps China would take to support the joint pursuit of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. China welcomes Belarus to continue its active participation and gain more tangible development opportunities from it. The two sides should implement the China-Belarus Industrial Park and other projects, and work for more results in industrial cooperation between China and Belarus. Both sides should elevate the level of facilitation of cross-border transport to promote economic, trade and personnel exchanges. The two sides should hold events of the Cultural Day in each other's country on a regular basis, expand cooperation in education, health, sports and tourism, support exchanges and cooperation between the youth of the two countries, and enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples. China and Belarus are important forces in the reform and development of the global governance system. China stands ready to work with Belarus to strengthen coordination and cooperation within multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, promote the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative, and advance the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said that under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, China has made great achievements in development, and more than 1.4 billion Chinese people live a happy life, making important contributions to the world. President Xi Jinping's successful experience in state governance has benefited all other parties and is worth learning from and drawing upon. Belarus sincerely hopes that China will continue to develop and grow stronger, which is conducive to the cause of peace and progress in the world. Belarus is firmly committed to developing friendly relations with China and is ready to keep close high-level exchanges with China, firmly support each other, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthen international and multilateral strategic coordination, and push for greater development of the all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership between Belarus and China. Belarus firmly believes that the Belt and Road cooperation and other global initiatives put forward by President Xi Jinping are great causes that truly muster the consensus and cooperation of the international community, and Belarus will continue to actively participate in them.

The two heads of state also had an exchange of views on the Ukraine crisis and other issues.

Cai Qi and Wang Yi were present at the meeting.
